From Idea to Launch: Building Warevolve for Shopify

About a year ago, I decided I was going to learn how to code.

Not in a cute “I’ll watch three YouTube videos and call myself technical” kind of way.

I mean properly sit down, open VS Code, stare at files I did not understand, break things, fix things, Google things, ask ChatGPT things, reload the code, mess up the navigation, try to understand models, routes, file structures and all the other little moving parts that make an app actually work.

And like most things I do, I started with a slightly ridiculous plan.

I was going to build an app from start to finish in a month.

Cute.

The app itself was something I had carried around in my head for a long time. It came from the same place most good ideas come from — a very real, very annoying problem.

Inventory.

Where did it go?
Who adjusted it?
Why does Shopify say one thing and the warehouse say another?
What moved?
What changed?
What happened between receiving stock, selling stock, adjusting stock and trying to explain it all later?

As an e-commerce founder, and then as someone running a 3PL, I have spent years dealing with the operational black hole that sits between stock, systems, people and decisions.

I wanted more visibility.
I wanted better flow.
I wanted merchants to be able to understand what was happening with their inventory without needing to become warehouse detectives.

So I started building.

At the time, AI was helpful, but it still felt like I was the one dragging the thing up the hill. I had to learn the structure. I had to build file by file. I had to work out what everything meant. I had to ask the same question seventeen different ways until something finally clicked.

And honestly, I loved it.

Because for the first time, my brain could think of something and then actually start to build it.

Fast forward twelve months, and the speed of AI has changed everything.

The work I had spent months trying to understand and build, I was able to feed back into an AI system and have rebuilt, refreshed and improved in around 48 hours.

With a cup of tea.

In front of the fireplace.

Absolutely wild.

In April, I finally managed to get the app launched into the Shopify platform.

It is called Warevolve.

Warevolve is an inventory management app for Shopify merchants who want to better understand the way their inventory is moving through their business.

It has been built from my own operational pain points — from years of running brands, packing orders, managing stock, dealing with adjustments, and trying to make better decisions with better data.

It is still early.
It has taken longer than I expected.
It has been more complex than I expected.
And I have learned more in the last few months than I ever thought possible.

But it is live.

And I am really proud of that.

Especially with Shopify decommissioning Stocky, there is now a real need for merchants to look at what comes next. Warevolve has been built so Shopify users can import their Stocky data directly into the app and continue building better inventory visibility from there.

For those moving across from Stocky, there are also a few little early migration options and payment surprises built in.

This whole journey has reminded me that sometimes the thing sitting in your head for years is only waiting for the right tools to exist.

My brain has always thought in systems.
In processes.
In workflows.
In “surely there is a better way to do this.”

Now, with AI, I can actually execute those ideas quickly.

And that is the part that excites me the most.

Not just the app itself.

But what this means for founders, operators, creatives and business owners who have spent years seeing problems and not having the technical ability to solve them.

The barrier has changed.

You still need the idea.
You still need the problem.
You still need the experience.
You still need the patience to sit with the messy middle.

But you no longer need to wait for someone else to build the thing you can see so clearly in your own mind.

So here it is.

Warevolve is live on Shopify.

I would love you to check it out, connect it to your store, have a play and tell me what you think.

This is only the beginning.

And if the last twelve months have taught me anything, it is this:

The future belongs to the people who are willing to learn quickly, build messily and keep evolving.

Do you agree?
